Pilates is a method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility, strength and endurance movements. Named after its creator, Joseph Pilates, it is often referred to as a Mind Body form of movement targeting core strength, muscle control and endurance as well as helping to manage back and joint pain.. Pilates is also the perfect compliment to dance training by developing whole body strength and flexibility, and helping to reduce the risk of injury.

Here at The Dance Studio Online, our Pilates Course will help you to improve posture, muscle tone, balance and joint mobility, as well as relieve stress and tension. We will utilise exercises and movement patterns that help with postural awareness, balance, flexibility, coordination and strength. This is the perfect option for all-around health and wellbeing!

Course details

This course will introduce you to the world of Pilates and provide you with the perfect routines for beginners completely new to Pilates. Qualified Physio Lizzy Caldwell will take you through some simple movements that are perfect for improving your mobility, core stability, strength and conditioning [particularly hips, glutes, core and back] making this course a great first step to improving overall wellbeing. You can also pause, rewind and rewatch to repeat any exercises you find work best for you or target your own specific problem areas.

For this course, you will need some clear space free of tripping hazards. A yoga mat is ideal but as long as there are no hazards and you exercise caution with appropriate clothing and footwear you can follow along without. During this course, some exercises will use a pilates [/yoga] block and small weights. These can easily be replaced with a towel and water bottles/tins or no weights can still be effective.
